Finding out whether a company is right for you can be tricky.

When you’re in the process of looking for a new job or position at another company, it can be challenging to determine which one is the right fit. We’ve put together a list of some factors to consider when deciding where you want to work!

1. THEY HAVE A CLEAR MISSION & VISION

Find out if the company has a clear mission and vision that you identify with. Companies that don’t have a clear mission and vision tend to lose sight of the big picture and can spend years stuck as an adolescent business instead of progressing into a mature one. Also, think about whether their mission and vision take the future into consideration. This will help you determine whether you will have growth opportunities within the company in the long-term.For us, our mission and vision are at the forefront of everything we do. Since our vision is to positively impact people’s lives, we recently released AD&V’s 2021 Impact Report with some of our most notable accomplishments of 2021, the number of lives we impacted, as well as our plans moving forward. A company that keeps its mission and vision front and center will increase its chances of success.

2. YOU SHARE VALUES

See if the company has a defined set of values and if they align with your own. Working in a company who shares your values will provide you with a community of like-minded individuals as well as give meaning and fulfillment to your work. Be aware, companies may have values, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that they put them into practice. See if they apply their values in their interactions with you. If a company states one of their values is respect but they don’t respect or value your time, that is a clear indicator that it may just talk the talk but not walk the walk. At AD&V we live and breathe our core values on a daily basis in order to make positive contributions to our communities, ourselves and our teams. It’s important that companies reflect who they are and what they stand for with their actions.

3. THERE ARE GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES

Ask the company if they offer professional development opportunities. Opportunities such as seminars, workshops, courses, and coaching sessions are great resources that will help keep you learning and growing professionally. At AD&V, we provide our Team with an annual budget to be used for training or professional development in order to encourage them to keep expanding their professional skills and knowledge for their own benefit, and that of the Team and the company. Companies that invest in their people create a successful team and business.

4. THEY FACILITATE WORK-LIFE HARMONY

Balancing your personal and professional life is essential to living a healthy life. Find out if the companies that interest you are focused on promoting a healthy work-life harmony for their employees. For example, we offer our Team personal benefits such as paid time off, personal goals planning, a wellness stipend, summer Fridays, and more to ensure that they’re taken care of. A company that cares for you and your wellbeing is a company that’s worth working for.

5. THEY PROVIDE FAIR COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

When evaluating a company, find out if they offer a living wage that can help you support and take care of yourself and your loved ones. Check if they also offer any other compensation benefits like the ones offered at AD&V, such as yearly salary increases and additional bonuses. Make sure that you get paid fairly for your work and service in the company you choose.

FINDING THE ONE

It’s been proven that the majority of us spend more time at work than in our own homes, that’s why it’s imperative that we work in a place where we feel appreciated, comfortable, motivated, and happy. This means working at a company where there’s a clear mission, you have shared values, growth opportunities, work-life harmony, and fair compensation. Taking these factors into consideration will help you figure out which company is the right one for you.
